A brand-new Indiana Jones adventure is taking shape at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, and Disney has revealed exciting new details about what guests can expect when Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpentmakes its debut.

During D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event presented by Visa, Disney shared new information about the attraction’s storyline, cultural inspiration and immersive experience—including a major reveal involving Disney Legend Harrison Ford.

Harrison Ford Will Be the Model for the Indiana Jones Animatronic

For the first time in a Disney attraction anywhere in the world, Harrison Ford will serve as the actual model for an Indiana Jones Audio-Animatronic figure.

The new figure will bring Ford’s iconic portrayal of the adventurous archaeologist into the attraction, giving guests the opportunity to encounter a version of Indiana Jones modeled directly after the actor himself.

A New Indiana Jones Adventure Inspired by Maya Culture

Imagineers are combining the excitement of a classic Indiana Jones adventure with the themes that define Disney’s Animal Kingdom, particularly the park’s connection to nature and creatures both real and imagined.

The attraction will take guests beneath the ruins of an ancient temple, incorporating elements inspired by Maya culture and its profound connection with nature.

The result will be an Indiana Jones story designed specifically for Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

The Story of Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent

During the adventure, guests will rendezvous with Dr. Indiana Jones, who is exploring a mysterious temple located near what was once a water-filled underground cave known as a cenote.

According to local legend, a passageway beneath the temple leads directly into the Maya Underworld.

But the passage is not unprotected.

Legend says it is guarded by a mysterious serpentine creature known as the Tsukán.

A Journey Into the Maya Underworld

The expedition quickly takes an unexpected turn when riders are accidentally pulled through a portal into the Underworld.

From there, guests will join Indy on an action-packed escape filled with dangerous encounters.

Along the way, adventurers will face:

• Monstrous bats
• Larger-than-life scorpions
• Fire and flames
• And, naturally, plenty of snakes

The experience will combine the danger and exploration associated with Indiana Jones with a story and environment created specifically for Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

A New Adventure Is Coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent will introduce guests to a completely new Indiana Jones story, blending ancient legends, Maya cultural inspiration, nature and thrilling exploration.

With Harrison Ford serving as the model for the attraction’s Indiana Jones animatronic and an adventure that takes guests deep into a mysterious Underworld, this new experience promises to bring an entirely new kind of expedition to Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Disney has not provided an opening date in this update, so additional details about the attraction are still to come.
